A Day in My Life without Media
I consider myself to be someone who is not really impacted by media or current technology. I am not very tech savvy and do not see myself as being very dependent on computers, iPads, etc. So, when I consider a day without media I do not envision much of a change.
A typical day begins with a quick glance at news headlines. CNN, the local newspaper, and the town news outlet are all available on my iPad; but not this morning. I could turn on the television for the headlines, but that is media too. I guess this morning I will rely on word of mouth.
Once I arrive at work, I check my emails. Since I have no access to media that will have to wait until tomorrow. But now I realize the impact of not having my computer for the day will have. Staff attendance cannot be checked with the click of a button; I will need to walk the building to check classrooms. Maintenance requests cannot be processed. Student discipline cannot be processed. For that matter, I am not able to retrieve any student information at all. To be honest, I should have stayed home for all that I am able to do at work. It is going to be a long day!
The workday is finally over and I have a paper to complete for an online course. This is another project for tomorrow; right now I do not have access to the Internet. Perhaps I will just sit and catch up on some reading, but once again, no. All of my books are downloaded to my iPad.
Obviously I am more dependent on technology that I thought. Clearly without it I cannot function.
